PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
After choosing to boot into MS-DOS, either from Boot Loader or by
using a bootable MS-DOS floppy disk, you can both view and modify an
NTFS partition using normal MS-DOS commands. Afterwards, the NTFS
partition is corrupted.
CAUSE
=====
Your computer had OS/2 installed with IBM Boot Manager on the first
partition. When you installed Windows NT, you directed Setup to
reformat an existing NTFS partition or convert a partition to NTFS.
Due to the configuration, the partition type was not set. The
partition remained marked as FAT.
WORKAROUND
==========
From OS/2, run the FDISKPM command to remove the NTFS partition. Then
reinstall Windows NT directing Setup to convert the partition to NTFS.
